So you are obviously fans of the Big Muff but what about the Germanium OD or the Germanium Muff? I was thinking of buying a boutique germanium fuzz or possibly building one from a kit but I've seen some youtube vids of the Electro Harmonix germanium pedals and they seem to sound similar at a fraction of the cost. Sadly, I haven't been able to try one out in person yet.
Germanium ODs are alright but I don’t really like the Germanium Muff. If I were you I would save up and go with the boutique option.
what are your (you guys') thoughts on devi ever fuzz pedals?
i've got one and i can say it's brutal! and price-wise they're not too far off a big muff, much more compact package too.
I’m personally a pretty big fan myself. She’s an awesome gal and builds some insane shit. I’ve had a chance to fuck around with a few different ones over a while, and have always found myself enjoying it.
Obviously you guys aren't keen on the Little Big Muff, which is fine. But hypothetically, lets say I wanted a good value for money fuzz pedal and I simply didn't have room on my board for the original Muff, lets be honest it's pretty chunky. What would you recommend?
Get a bigger board. How this would be a problem to anyone is ridiculous… Caring more about the look and tightness of your pedal board rather than making sure all the key components are there is rather silly. There are no substitutes.
Im looking to buy a few new pedals. I play mostily dotted 8th note like stuff, im pretty sick of my boss dd3, can you recomend something else.
and other pedals that i should add to my bext board.
i play a gibson melody maker so i use single coil pickups most of the time haha.
I play a Little 'Bitch' Muff and I totally agree, in comparission to the Big Muff, it lacks power, it's no contest. But I have had zero issues it tone wise, I'm pretty sparing with it, I don't heavy up often but when I do I think it does justice. As part of the Big Muff family, it's one of the kids, but ultimately as a fuzz, I think it serves it's purpose nicely.
I personally despise Little Big Muffs, they just don’t deliver the power that I’ve come to expect from real Big Muffs. I love fuzz too much to deal with that defanged cobra of a pedal.
hello gearwhore, I need some advice shall I get a mxr phase 90 or a phase 100? I would go for the phase 100, i mean it has more knobs, what do you think? more knobs, greater pedal?
Well the Phase 90 is a classic(even though I don’t like it) and the Phase 100 is kinda better because it let’s you control the wave type. I would suggest you get on Craigslist and find a good EHX Small Stone. Those things have a much more versatile sound.
This is everything I've ever wanted in a blog. Thank you so much! By the way, on Beck's pedal board, he has made a shade for his TU-2, so it can be seen during the day! I need to make myself one of those!
Thank you very much for your kind words.
Have you considered getting a new tuner? Most newer models like the TU-3 and the Polytune have light sensitive LEDs.
We reached 200 followers today, which is kind of cool. Especially since it’s just Bobby and I running this thing. But we do appreciate all the positive vibes comin from you guys, and hope you all enjoy the blog as much as we do!
